As part of San Francisco International Airport’s $55 million upgrade to the International Terminal, a new outdoor terrace observation deck, located post-security at the end of Boarding Area G, was revealed to the public in 2019. The 2,997 square foot, open-air space affords 180-degree views of the airfield, including some of the largest aircraft serving SFO. The space features ten-foot tall, ¼” low iron, tempered, GlasPro Bird-Safe glass panels with ultraviolet reflective patterns that are visible to birds but highly-transparent to the human eye. The ultraviolet reflective patterns in the glass panels keeps birds protected from collisions as it offers travelers clear views of the area.
The project to upgrade the International Terminal involved multiple groups. The design-build team is made up of Webcor and a joint venture between Woods Bagot and TSAO Design Group, while the construction management was provided by a joint venture of The Allen Group and Avila & Associates. The Bird Safe glass installer was Architectural Glass & Aluminum.
