GlasPro Colored Glass Illuminates Ribbons in Time
Ribbons In Time is a site-specific art installation by Artist Paul Housberg at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah. The project was sponsored by the Salt Lake City Public Art Program and includes more than 100 4-by-8-foot panes of bent, tempered, and laminated glass with colored interlayers fabricated by GlasPro. The glass is installed on the second and third floor balcony railings of the theater’s grand lobby.
The sequence of colors emphasizes the curvilinear and sculptural nature of the balconies and resembles ribbons of color flowing through space. According to the artist, the title references both geological strata and the notion that dance, music and theater are based on time.
“The intent was to create flowing ribbons of color that enhance the elegant, yet festive atmosphere of the lobby,” said Housberg. “These are inspired by the blues and grays of the Great Salt Lake, the yellows and oranges of sunsets and the golds and pinks of canyons.”
